Nicholas Pernal
Board member
Nicholas Pernal joins the Board with over 25 years of experience in the broader public sector. Immediately prior to his appointment, he was the Senior Advisor to the President of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada. In this capacity, he provided strategic counsel and leadership on labour relations, government affairs, and internal governance for one of Canada’s largest unions of professionals.
Over his 15-year career with PIPSC, he held progressively more senior positions in both individual representation and collective bargaining prior to joining the Institute’s senior management team. Early in his career, Mr. Pernal conducted regulatory enforcement of employment standards and the mediation of unjust dismissal complaints under the Canada Labour Code, and served as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.
He was previously appointed as a member to both the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board and the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. Mr. Pernal holds a Bachelor of Science with distinction from the Royal Military College of Canada.
